Sherlock's gone blond! Benedict Cumberbatch is the golden boy in film version of spy thriller
He sprang to fame in 2010 starring as Sherlock Holmes in the BBC's modern spin on the classic detective - but now Benedict Cumberbatch is turning his attentions to something totally different.
The 34-year-old actor has not only changed era but has changed his looks for his role in the remake of classic thriller Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy - straightening his hair and dying it blond.
The film is based on the Cold War-era novel by John le Carre and will see Benedict take on the crucial role of Peter Guillam, a member of MI6 who is called upon to track down a possible mole within the organisation.

He is aided in his quest by his mentor, retired agent George Smiley,with the story told in a series of flashbacks.
Benedict will be in good company in the movie, which is currently shooting in London.
He is joined by an all-star cast which includes Gary Oldman as George Smiley, and also features Colin Firth, Roger Lloyd Pack and Mark Strong.

It is due for release on September 16.
This is the first time that the novel has been made into a film, although there was a successful TV adaptation in 1979 which starred Alex Guinness as Smiley and Michael Jayston as Peter Guillam.
Benedict, meanwhile, will also be seen this year in the film adaptation of the hit play War Horse, directed by Steven Spielberg.

He is also due to appear in a second series of Sherlock, following the success of the first series when it was screened last summer.
