As previously reported, Sherlock's Benedict Cumberbatch will star alongside Jonny Lee Miller in Danny Boyle's Frankenstein play at London's National Theatre. When speaking with the BBC, the 34-year-old English thespian says he's a bit frightened of embracing his inner ogre for the twofold part he shares with Miller.
"I'm in a sort of fearless place, but I know the risks involved and it's quite a huge undertaking," Cumberbatch revealed. "But Danny has this ridiculously endless pool of energy which is constantly reinventive. If you look at his roster of work, it's so varied and extraordinary that I couldn't be in safer hands."
Boyle's version of Frankenstein, which is based on writer Nick Dear's adaptation of Mary Shelley's famed Gothic novel published in 1818, runs from February 5 through April 17. Cumberbatch is currently in rehearsals and quite eager for opening night.
"I can't wait for the collaboration to begin," he added. "I hope people get a lot of thrills and spills."
For American theater fans, Cumberbatch fancies that such a celebrated story will hit the Broadway stage one day.
"We hope it will have a life on Broadway at some point. It would be a great thing for an American audience to see," he said.
